In a constantly-evolving world with groundbreaking applications for smartphones launching every day, we PR professionals can make use of many of these to suit our on-the-go jobs. While most of these aren’t as exciting as an app that helps a blind man navigate or determine denominations of dollars, they’re still very helpful in getting through a day in the public relations industry. Here are some of my favorites:
A news application is a must-have for public relations professionals. I like CNN because it gives me updates on the most important news on my screen, but for everyday news I simply open the app and cruise through the happenings of the day. I have news that I can follow and save, as well as local news right at my fingertips.
Though a bit pricier than others, this is essential for PR pros while out and about. This application lets you search listings, create custom entries, add notes and bookmark listings. It’s a lot smaller and easier than having to carry your stylebook around with you all day long.
Evernote allows you to create text, photo and audio notes that automatically synchronize with your computer and web interface. It makes text within snapshots searchable, allowing you to search through content of your notes and find all the information you’ve ever jotted down on a napkin with ease. This one is a lifesaver!
Manage all of your Twitter contacts easily from your mobile phone with Tweetdeck. I like being able to create lists and manage both personal and client accounts from without having to log in and out continually. It easily interfaces with Twitpic and YFrog and also allows you to refresh the screen just by shaking your phone.
How can you get a good cup of coffee with a reporter on their own turf if you don’t know the best places in town? I use my Yelp application constantly to find spots for coffee, drinks or dinner.
Staying connected to social media, news and our clients is critical to our job. It’s nice to know there are so many apps to chose from to make our lives easier! What are some of your favorites?
